Ogun: Abiodun, Akinlade react to death of Adeosun – Daily Post Nigeria

person

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in the state during the last election, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, have mourned Hon. Saibu Adeosun.

The duo of Abiodun and Akinlade, in separate statements, described Adeosun’s death as a great loss to his family, friends and political associates as well as the All Progressives Congress in Ipokia Local Government and Ogun State in general.

DAILY POST reported earlier that Adeosun, one of the newly appointed 20 Local Government Caretaker Chairmen by Gov Dapo Abiodun has died.

Adeosun was appointed alongside others to head Ipokia Local Government Caretaker Committee.

It was learnt that Adeosun, who was to be screened by the Ogun State House of Assembly today, died around 5 am on Wednesday.

Abiodun, while swearing in the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Mobolaji Ayodele Ojo and other Judges of the Court, observed a minute’s silence in Adeosun’s honour, praying that the good Lord comfort his family and grant his soul eternally rest.

“The death of the Chairman-Nominee for the Transition Committee in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, Saibu Adeosun Mulero, a few hours to his screening by the State House of Assembly came to us as a rude shock.

“He was such a diligent and resourceful grassroots politician, whose skills and astuteness would have helped the people of Ipokia move to a higher level of development.

“He will surely be missed by the party, APC, the good people of Ipokia LGA that he had plans to lead, and the Dapo Abiodun administration would miss his envisaged contributions to our model of inclusive and participatory governance, of which he was a disciple,” Abiodun said.

On his own part, Akinlade, who shares the same local government as Adeosun, in a statement signed by his Media Aide, Adelani Azeez, said, “It is with a heavy heart that we write to mourn the death of our brother and a member of our great party in Ipokia Local Government – Hon. Saibu Adeosun, who joined his creator this morning.

“Until his demise, Hon. Adeosun was a grassroot politician and an All Progressives Congress (APC) member.

“We did not wish for this untimely death, but God knows better and we implore Him to grant the family of the bereaved the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“Hon. Adeosun’s death is a great loss to his family, friends, political associates, All Progressives Congress in Ipokia Local Government and Ogun State in general.

“Adeosun’s demise calls for sober reflections and it is a lesson to all of us that, from God we came and to Him we shall return someday.

“May Almighty God forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest.”

Photo Of Nigerian Man Who Beat His Own Wife To Death Over Food On Christmas Day

The man has been arrested

Wednesday, 25 December, 2019 was a day of joy and celebration for all people irrespective of religious affiliation.

But the day went sour for the family of Sonola in Ijeun Titun area of Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun state, as the 37-year old Mutiu Sonola reportedly beat his wife Zainab to death after a short argument over food.

Late Zainab, 34 years old, was a mother of one before her untimely death, she was a trader in Kuto market; she deals with foodstuffs and other things.

According to an eyewitness, Bankole Soluade, a resident of the area where the couple resided, narrated how Sonola Mutiu usually beat Zainab repeatedly and how they normally intervened to stop him from the act.

Soluade said: “On that fateful day, the story changed as Sonola Mutiu popularly known as Alfa Mutiu was reportedly beat Zainab to coma. When he discovered that the woman was almost dead, he rushed her to Ogun State Hospital at Sokenu road, Ijaiye, Abeokuta for treatment but Zainab could not survive the beating as she gave up the ghost in the hospital”.

He added that “the hospital management then instructed Mutiu to carry the remains of his wife when she was finally confirmed dead.”

Mutiu then took the corpse of his late wife to his family house at Oke-Yeke in Abeokuta, where the policemen attached to Ibara police station was called upon to arrest him with the corpse.

“Mutiu was habitually beating his wife at any slightest provocation and that the latest assault leading to the woman’s death was triggered by a “minor disagreement which was on food.”

On her part, an old woman who identified herself as Mrs. Aileru, said Mutiu has two wives. She said Zainab was the second wife.

She said, both Mutiu and Zainab used to have quarrels to the extent that whenever there was quarrel between them, Mutiu will beat Zainab blue black.

“Family members and neighbors had settled issues for both of them on several occasions. Even there was a time Zainab packed her belongings and moved out of Mutiu’s house, we settled the quarrel then and came back”.

“I was surprised when Mutiu called her around 11am that his wife has been rushed to the hospital after minor disagreement between the two of them and he later called back around 11:30am to tell her that his wife is dead.

“Mutiu started beating his wife in the morning on Christmas Day over a minor disagreement, despite series of warning by neighbours that he should desist from further assaulting his wife, a furious Mutiu kept hitting her with blows until Zainab slumped and slipped into coma.”

The spokesperson for the Ogun State command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said preliminary investigation revealed that Mutiu was fond of beating the deceased at the slightest provocation and that the incident, that resulted in her death, was a minor disagreement.

Prophet Accused Of Killing LASU Student For Money Ritual Disowned By C&S Church

person

A white garment prophet identified as Segun Philips who was accused of killing one Miss Favour Daley for ritual purposes has been disowned by the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, the umbrella body of C and S churches worldwide.

It will be recalled that Miss Daley, a 22-years-old final year student of the Lagos State University (LASU) was allegedly killed for money ritual purposes by 23-year-old Adeeko Owolabi, her boyfriend with the help of the prophet.

Luck, however, ran out on him when he was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command but not after the victim had been killed.

Reacting to the development, the C&S Church in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Apostle M. O. Adeyemi said there is no record where Segun Philips is associated with the C & S and officers of the church in Irewole/Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State where the crime was committed.

The church denied knowledge of Segun Philips as a member of the Holy Order.

The statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday said, “We have contacted all our officers in the Zone and they said they did not know him or his church. Besides, our Youth Fellowship went as far as locating his church and came with the reports (including photographs) of not seeing any signpost or imprint of C & S in his place of worship.

“We wonder why the Press hurriedly tagged him a “C & S Prophet”. We are not unmindful of the fact that many charlatans hide under the Freedom of Association as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution to set up places of worship for different purposes. Some of them adopt white garments and mimick our mode of worship even when they are not registered or under the episcopal authority of the leadership of the C & S.

“We appeal to the members of the Press to always ascertain the true identity of some fake Pastors and Prophets wearing white garments to deceive unsuspecting members of the public for pecuniary gains.”

The Church while commiserating with the family of the killed lady, also went ahead to condemn the act in its entirety, labelling it as a devilish act and urged security operatives to ensure justice is served.

“It is rather unfortunate that anybody calling himself a Christian could be that devilish and kill a fellow human being for money-making ritual. The C & S Church is a Bible-believing Church that strongly believes in the sacredness of the blood of Jesus and frowns at any blood-letting rituals. ”

“The C & S Unification Church of Nigeria strongly condemns the act and urged the law enforcement officers to fish out the ilks of Philips before killing more unsuspecting Nigerians.

“The Church also commiserate with the family of the young undergraduate and the entire Lagos State University (LASU) community”.

* Osun pastor, mother, son kill victim for money rituals

Pastor David Daley-Oladele, whose daughter, Favour, was gruesomely murdered allegedly by one Owolabi Adeeko; his mother, identified simply as Mrs Adeeko; and the pastor of a white garment church, Segun Philip, in the Ikoyi-Ile area of Osun State, has stated that the dismembered body of the victim was buried on the church premises, Punch reports.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Favour, a 400-level undergraduate of the Department of Theatre Arts, Lagos State University, after a short visit to her parents in the Mowe area of Ogun State, departed for school on December 8, 2019, but while on her way, she went to see Owolabi, said to be her boyfriend, at an undisclosed location.

Owolabi reportedly lured Favour to the Ikoyi-Ile area around Apomu and Ikire, Osun State, where he reportedly connived with his mother and Philip to kill and use the 22-year-old’s body parts for money ritual.

When they got to Ikoyi-Ile, it was learnt that Owolabi took the victim to the Fortress Hotel, where he allegedly drugged her and brought her to Philip’s church and used a pestle to smash her head while she was asleep.

Immediately after perpetrating the act, Philip was alleged to have used a knife to slit Favour’s throat.

The self-styled pastor reportedly ripped Favour’s chest open, removed her heart and used it to prepare a concoction for Owolabi and his mother to eat.

The concoction was said to be part of the rituals to boost the financial standing of Owolabi and his mother.

Favour’s sudden disappearance and the inability to communicate with her had become a source of concern to her parents, whose efforts to trace her to LASU and her hostel off the campus proved abortive.

The deceased’s father, David, said a case of a missing person was later reported to the police, who tracked her mobile phone’s location to Ikoyi-Ile.

While demanding justice for his daughter, David said the suspects, after perpetrating the crime, buried Favour’s remains in front of the church.

He stated, “She came home for a short visit and was to go back to school for her final examination. But while at home, she received a phone call from an anonymous person and told us that she would be seeing a friend on her way to school. But when it got late, I called her phone but it was unreachable; her mother could also not contact her.

“On Monday and Tuesday, she didn’t call and her number was still not going through, so, we went to search for her in school and her hostel, but she was nowhere to be found. I also went to hospitals and mortuaries to search for her but did not see her, so, I went to report at the Mowe Police Station.

“It was from the police station that a tracker traced her phone to Ikoyi-Ile in Osun State and we all mobilised to the place. The location looks like a jungle and the church was inside a very thick bush; the suspects were arrested. I saw a black Honda parked on the church premises and also where they buried my daughter in front of the church.

“I want justice. My wife is seriously ill; I had to rush her to the Biobatam Hospital in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos. Her illness is because of stress and as a result of what happened. This is a trying time for me.”

David wife’s sister, Peygo Ogu, explained, “My sister’s condition is critical. She had been ill before the incident, but what happened to her daughter compounded her condition.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said three suspects had been arrested, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, had transferred the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation.

Oyeyemi stated, “The deceased was reported to have left home to an unknown destination since Sunday, December 8, 2019, and had not been seen since then, hence she was reported missing by her parents at the Mowe Police Station. Upon the report, the DPO, Mowe Division, Marvis Jayeola, detailed his crack detectives to unravel the mystery behind Favour’s sudden disappearance.

“The detectives went into full-scale technical and forensic investigation of the case and their efforts paid off when the movement of the deceased was traced to a white garment church in far away Ikoyi-Ile in Osun State.

“The church was being shepherded by Segun Philip, and on getting to the church, the self-acclaimed pastor was promptly arrested, but he was quick to inform the detectives that the girl was brought to him by her boyfriend, Owolabi Adeeko, who was still within the vicinity of the church. The said boyfriend was traced and apprehended.

“On interrogation, Owolabi Adeeko confessed to the police that the deceased was his girlfriend and that he lured her to Ikoyi-Ile, where he had perfected plans with the so-called pastor Segun Philip to use her for money rituals. He stated further that while the girl was sleeping, the pastor gave him a pestle with which he used to smash her head and the pastor quickly used a knife to cut off her neck, ripped open her chest and removed her heart, which he used in preparing a concoction for him and his mother to eat.”

Oyeyemi explained that Owolabi, during interrogation, confessed to having perpetrated the crime to boost his family’s financial state, adding that Philip demanded a human being for the rituals.

The PPRO stated, “When asked what pushed him into such a devilish act, Owolabi explained that he decided to go into money rituals because things were not going well with his parents, especially his mother, who is the breadwinner of the family; and when he sought assistance from the pastor, he was asked to bring a human being for that purpose and the only available person at that time was his girlfriend.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Homicide Section of the SCIID for proper investigation. Ebrimson, who described the gruesome murder of the deceased as a high degree of wickedness, vowed to ensure that the suspects face the full wrath of the law.”

Some LASU students, who were shocked by Favour’s death, are demanding justice for their late school mate.

A Twitter user, @Lasu_PR, who chronicled the circumstances surrounding Favour’s death, alleged that Owolabi was an ex-student of the institution and met the victim two months ago.

He tweeted, “It’s important for us to appreciate the good work of the investigating officers but what is most troublesome is that the duo of Owolabi Adeeko and Prophet Segun Philip were boasting.”

@RUCCIFIED tweeted, “We truly hope that the @LASUOfficial, together with the @lagosstategov and other state and federal law agencies against brutality and evil practices would lend a voice and take action to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.”

The Coordinator, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, LASU, Ademola Adekoya, said in a statement that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, had called for calm among the undergraduates, stating that law enforcement agents were on top of the matter.

The statement read in part, “The university management hereby commiserates with the parents and other family members of the deceased, Favour Dailey-Oladele, the staff and students of the department and the entire university community. The police have assured us that justice will be served in this case as the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be charged immediately the investigation is concluded.

“The vice-chancellor, on behalf of the university management, hereby calls for caution on this issue on the part of students and requests that they remain calm to allow law enforcement agents to conclude their work. He assured all that the university will continue to monitor the case.”

Also reacting, the President, Students’ Union Government, LASU, Oluwatayo Oladele, said, “We want justice for Favour; my executive and I have visited the family members of the deceased and we also visited the police station handling the case to get some information regarding the ongoing investigation.”

When one of our correspondents contacted the Osun State Police Command on Sunday, it said the Ogun command was handling the matter.

The spokesperson for the command, Folasade Odoro, said in a text message in response to enquiries on the case, “Call Ogun PPRO for details; thanks.”

Tragedy as hit-and-run driver crushes two to death in Ogun

A hit-and-run motorist has crushed two persons to death at the Ijagun junction on the Sagamu-Ore Expressway in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Route Commander, Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State, Florence Okpe, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

Okpe stated that the accident happened around 4.30pm.

She said the fatal crash involved two male adults, who were on a motorcycle.

The statement read in part, “The persons involved in the crash were two male adults, who unfortunately died.

“They were riding a wine Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with number plate AAB 052 VQ, when an unidentified vehicle hit them, but the driver ran away and the motorcyclist lost control and crashed due to the impact.

“The two corpses were deposited in the state mortuary in Ijebu-Ode.”

Okpe also stated that an earlier crash occurred around 5.10pm on Wednesday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Mowe bus stop in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The FRSC officer explained that the accident involved a Mark tanker with number plate KMC 107 YS and a motorcycle with number plate GBE 054 VU.

She said three male adults were involved in the accident but no one died or got injured.

Okpe stated, “The suspected cause of the crash was wrongful overtaking, which led to the loss of control.

“The crash affected the tanker conveying petroleum product with some of its content spilling on the road.

“There was no fire outbreak due to prompt emergency response, but the gridlock that ensued lasted several hours before the transfer of the petroleum product to another tanker and the crashed tanker was removed from the road to restore traffic.”

Okpe advised motorists to drive cautiously.

“The FRSC, Ogun State Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, commended the Redeemed Christian Church of God for creating a thoroughfare yesterday (Wednesday) through the Redemption Camp from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Mowe (between Lotto and the RCCG youth gate) to ease the traffic discomfort for motorists trapped in the gridlock that ensued after a tanker conveying PMS crashed around the Mowe bus stop on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway,” she added.

Teenager Set His Girlfriend Ablaze Over Infidelity; Says He Prefers Death To Imprisonment

person

Victor Orji, 18, who allegedly murdered his girlfriend, Mariam Alabi, 24, opened up to Simon Utebor about what transpired and how he landed in police custody.

Victor Orji
Eighteen year old internet fraudster, Victor Orji

Read his full interview below:

1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Victor Orji, I am 18 years old. I was born on July 9, 2001. I am from Benue State. My mother is from Enugu State while my father is from Benue State Olatagba Abadi Local Government. I attended Al-Barka Primary School and I moved to Oduduwa Junior High School and I moved down to Gbagada Senior Grammar School, Lagos. I completed my secondary education in 2016.

2. The lady you set ablaze, who is now deceased, was said to be your girlfriend, when did you start dating?

We had been dating since February 28, 2019. I met her through a friend.

3. What was she doing when both of you met and became friends?

She was a sex worker. I was aware of that. Initially, our intention was not to date each other. I only wanted to have sex with her and pay her off.

4. How did you get yourself into this situation?

It started on a Monday. I gave her some money to make her hair. She went to Badagry for the hairdo because I did not have enough on me. On a normal day, if she wanted to make her hair, she used to go to Lagos Island to get it done. She left around 7:15am and returned around 8:30pm.

I tried to find out why she came back at that time. I told her the following day (Tuesday) to take her bag and leave. She immediately took her bag and she left. She came back on Wednesday with a female friend. I wasn’t at home at that time. When I got back and saw her and her friend, Olamide, I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to cause a scene while her friend was there. So, we settled our quarrel.

On Thursday, she said she wanted to see her sister who had just delivered a baby at Sango Ota in Ogun State. She also said she would use the opportunity to see her family. So, she left. But I wasn’t convinced she was going to see her family. So I called her mum and asked if she knew where her daughter was and her mother said no. But I told her what her daughter told me.

Her mum, unsure of what to say, gave flimsy excuses to cover up for her. I knew her mum always asked me to forgive her. I felt it was becoming the usual situation.

So, on Friday (of the same week), she returned in the night but before then, in the morning, I had called her. I had already blocked her number. I called to ask when she would return home but her phone was switched off. After calling her for about three hours without success, I blocked her line.

Then suddenly, she started calling me, but it indicated a private number. After calling several times, I picked up. She said, “Victor, I am at home now.”

At home, she said everything was fine. I told her her mother had said she did not know where she was. She responded by asking if her mother would know everywhere she went. Then I got angry again and told her to pack her bag and leave. She called someone; I suspected that the person said he was not around so there was no way she could go there that night. So, she begged me to forgive her and I left her alone but I was sure she called someone because I saw the name (Kunle).

I asked who Kunle was and she said it was one doctor that used to give her medicine. After her explanation, I forgave her and allowed her to stay but she slept in the sitting room and I slept in the bedroom. In the morning, I checked her phone after trying different passwords. I saw the number she called. I checked Snapchat and saw videos of her. She was in a hotel taking hard drugs and having fun. So I took the phone to the sitting room to confront her. I slapped her across the face and she woke up. She already knew what she did. She ran to the kitchen and locked the kitchen door.

I asked her why she closed the door and if I didn’t look like someone that could scold her. She didn’t respond. Then I went to the backyard and tried to come in through the door leading out. When I got in, she pointed a knife at me. I ran to the bedroom to pick up a mop. When she saw me with it, she threw the knife away and ran to the backyard where I kept my generator. There was a keg of petrol there; she brought out the petrol.

5. Are you saying she was the one who brought out the petrol?

Yes. She was saying, “Victor, if you want to kill me, kill me”. I was able to overpower her. I put the keg of petrol down and went inside to get a lighter. I snapped the lighter.

6. Are you denying that you doused her with petrol?

It not like I doused her with the fuel. She was with the fuel but in the process of trying to take the keg of petrol from her, the fire started. I was the one that picked up the lighter and used it.

7. Were you not aware of the implication of such an action?

When I was in school I read a lot about fire, gas and lot of that, I was not thinking properly at that moment.

I wasn’t even angry or happy. I don’t know what really happened.

8. Did you actually weigh the consequences of your action?

I wasn’t thinking. When she was on fire, I ran outside to pick up a fire extinguisher but I didn’t know it was beside me because I wasn’t thinking. I even opted for water but I once heard that water would worsen something like.

I ran to the bedroom to get a duvet which I used to cover her immediately to put out the fire. It wasn’t even up to a minute, let me just say it all happened in about 59 seconds because everything happened really fast.

9. What did you do after that?

I called her mother and told her I had burnt her daughter and she hung up. I was confused and began to shout for help. Instead, people tied me up.

10. Now that the law has caught up with you, how prepared are you to face the consequences?

I won’t lie, I am not prepared. If I had taken a second to think about it, I would not be in this mess. I am still young; I have dreams and goals to accomplish in my life.

Within the little time we spent together, I understood her. She did things that she was not proud of and I was the only one that understood that. She said she had a five-year-old child and had to go through a lot of things. She had to leave her father’s house and that led her into prostitution. She said some friends introduced her to prostitution. She also told me she was going to stop and that she needed someone to take care of her, so I promised to take care of her.

11. How old was she?

She told me she was going to be 24 years old on December 28, 2019.

12. That means she was about six years older than you?

When I was in school, I never had a girlfriend. And when I was looking for a girlfriend, I met her and felt she was more experienced in life and would be able to guide me. Also, I felt that because of the things she had gone through, she wouldn’t behave like other girls out there. I felt I wouldn’t have to worry that she was going to cheat on me, especially since she also had a child.

13. What were you doing for a living?

I was into Internet fraud. I had been doing since 2016.

14. How much did you make from fraud?

What I used to get was not so much. At times, I got $1,500, at times $1,000. I’m really good at saving. I don’t like going out. I might just stay at home for like three months and save.

15. How were you operating your ‘Yahoo’ business?

I always used Instagram. I would go to some pages and follow people. Once they accepted, I would send them a message. From there, relationship would develop. If I realised that the person was interested, other things would follow. I could make demands, etc. You can’t get anything from some people.

16. The law has already caught up with you. What do you have to say about this incident?

There’s always consequence for every action. This is the consequence of my own action.

17. Are you prepared to face the consequences?

I’m scared but I know that between going to jail and facing death, I prefer death.

18. You mean you prefer death to serving jail term?

Yes; I prefer death. I cannot go to jail for two months. If I go to jail, my life will be messed up.

19. So you prefer to be killed for killing your girlfriend?

Yes, because that’s what everybody is saying now. They are saying something like “I’m not supposed to be human – that I must be an animal to have killed someone”. I didn’t even do intentionally. But it has happened.
